I am passionate about helping you to manage your mental well-being and believe there is a strong connection between the body and the mind. The effects of anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma can be physically felt as well as mentally and emotionally. I understand how overwhelming and debilitating it can be and offer a safe, non-judgmental space to help you work through these feelings so that you can start to live your life again.
About me and my practice
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw on a number of different psychotherapeutic approaches and tools. I believe everyone's experience of stress, anxiety and depression is different and rather than a one size fits all type of counselling, I provide a holistic approach and look at you as a whole to tailor therapy to your needs. My core approach is person-centred, believing you to be the expert on yourself; I will work with you to explore your experiences and emotions to find ways to help and better understand yourself. As well as talking therapy we might use breath work, mindfulness, meditation techniques and cognitive behavioural therapy to help you manage behaviours and negative thoughts.
Experience
I have experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, anger issues, bereavement, low self esteem, relationship problems, sexual abuse and trauma.
I am trauma informed and hold a mental health first aid certificate and have helped adults and teens in crisis through the mental health support service Shout.
I have a private practice, Cardiff Holistic Counselling & Psychotherapy, and volunteer as a counsellor with Ty Elis Counselling in Porthcawl. I also volunteer for Familyline, offering telephone advice and support on a range of issues.
I have over 20 year's experience teaching people in the NHS and in the community, with 10 year's spent supporting people one-to-one with personal development and wellbeing, and have delivered courses to groups of people on managing stress and mental wellbeing.
Qualifications
I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Certificate in Education (Post Compulsory Education and Training).
